The Lare and Teni Omoworare Foundation was founded in year 2023 by the descendants of Chief Joseph Larewaju and Princess Teniade Areoye Omoworare. Our parents did great works that impacted their immediate community in their time and we intend to keep their legacies alive by giving back to humanity in their memory. The Lare and Teni Omoworare Foundation is a nonpartisan, non-political, philanthropic foundation that promotes a better world by developing Education, ensuring the wellbeing of Humans and providing Community Infrastructure.
Larewaju Omoworare (18th August 1921 – 13th March 1986), was a teacher for thirty- one years who was trained in Fourah-Bay College in Sierra Leone, University of Newcastle, England and University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He also lived a fulfilled life as a Farmer and by finding time to serve his community as a Traditional Chief and Local City Councillor for four years. In his years as an educator he was at different times a Vice Principal of three Secondary Schools and a Principal of three others. He contributed to the Free Education Policy of Western Region of Nigeria and was the Chairman of the Board of Governors of three Catholic Secondary Schools. He served the West African Examination Council as a Chief Examiner and authored two books.
The daughter of Oba Adesoji Aderemi, the Ooni of Ife (1930-1980) and the first black African Governor; Teniade Omoworare (5th July 1931- 12th October 1986), attended the Girls Modern Academy (Mrs Manuwa Grooming School) in Lagos Island, Nigeria, Regent Street Polytechnic, London and the London Fashion Academy where she obtained Diplomas in Domestic Science and Fashion Designing respectively. She was an active trader and home maker. She taught Domestic Science in several Secondary Schools and trained young girls in her Moremi Fashion Institute.
Larewaju and Teniade Omoworare were both fervent Catholics and deep rooted community people that founded the Ife Dance Club and were members of different social associations within the community. The doors of their home was always open to friends, family and visitors.
The Foundation is currently funded by the children and grandchildren of our Mentors. Expanded funding strategies that will include sustainable relationships with donor organisations are being fashioned out. We are governed by a Board of Trustees Chaired by Mrs. Mojoyinola Ajila. Our management works with a host of expert consultants currently working together to advance the foundation’s mission and to craft a five year Strategic Development Plan.
